Winx opens at $1.06 for Chelmsford

Monday 28 August 2017, 12:14pm

Winx has been listed at $1.06 in first markets for the Chelmsford Stakes in which she will bid to extend her winning streak to 19.

There were 16 nominations taken on Monday for Saturday's Group Two 1600m-race at Randwick including Winx's stablemate Foxplay who is on the second line of betting at $15.

But trainer Chris Waller has indicated Foxplay is unlikely to start in the Chelmsford and he has entered her for both the Tramway Stakes at Randwick and the Group One Memsie Stakes at Caulfield, each over 1400 metres.

Foxplay almost caused racing's biggest upset on August 19 when she led the Warwick Stakes field until the final 50 metres after Winx made a mess of the start.

To rectify any repeat, Waller has confirmed Winx will race in the earmuffs that are usually discarded when she leaves the parade ring.

He says it is not a major change with the earmuffs blocking out around 20 per cent of the surrounding noise which should help Winx in the barrier.
