Prime Thoroughbreds
This season Prime Thoroughbreds syndicated horses have won 45 races with horses of the calibre of Believe 'N Achieve, Lord Monty, Hidden Wonder, Rose Of Scotland, Unser, Hyginus, I Am Magic, Our Moscato, Danseda, Unchain My Heart, Namsarai, Commands Gold, Too Many Reds, Sea Coral, Merry Miss, Izacat, Bavarian Belle, Valize and Admiral's Cup wearing our colours.
It has also been a year where we retired some of our best gallopers with Captain Chaos, Greenmount Belle, Shine On Anna and Magnifique Lass heading to greener pastures.
The weanling syndications from this group include Believe ' N Achieve, Too Many Reds, Hyginus, I Am Magic and Merry Miss.
The Filly
This filly is by the leading first season sire in Australia in Stratum.
Stratum also has the distinction of being the leading two year old sire as well. The last sire to acheve this rare double was the great Danehill in the 1993/94 season.
Stratum won the Golden Slipper and has a terrific pedigree being by Redoute's Choice out of a Luskin Star (Golden Slipper winner) mare.
Magic Heaven won three races as a two year old including the WATC Gimcrack Stakes and was third in the Blue Diamond Prelude. She was a very good two year old.
Magic Heaven is in foal to Kaphero and has a yearling by Snippetson that will be trained by Neville Parnham in WA. She has a two year old by Mossman that has had one start and an unraced three year old By Exceed And Excel which cost $310,000 as a yearling. Her four year old has been placed in Sydney, Hawkesbury and Wyong and was purchased for $130,000 as a yearling by Gai Waterhouse.
I have had terrific success purchasing horses out of WA mares. The best has been Unabated but also Sea Coral, Transparent Lass, Brunei Tale and Hyginus are out of WA mares.
I have a huge respect for Stratum and my expectations for him are high. He looks like being the first stallion since Danehill in 1993/94 to top both the National First Season and Two Year Old List. He also appears to be a stallion that upgrades his mare's progeny's racetrack performance.
I expect that the progeny of Stratum to be out of our reach at next year's yearling sales and highly recommend this filly to you.
Weanling Syndications
I have written a lot recently about our weanling syndications but it is a good story and I'm very proud of the results we have achieved.
As I write this we have had 10 of the 12 weanling syndications of racing age that I have offered race with 8 individual winners coming from this group. These 8 winners have had 64 starts for 20 wins or a strike rate of 31.25%.
We still have Believe 'N Achieve, Too Many Reds, Hyginus, I Am Magic, Merry Miss and our exciting debutant Pitt Street in the team which is very exciting. As well as these horses we have unraced two year olds by Starcraft (half brother to Danseda) and Foreplay (3/4 sister to Sea Coral and Hyginus) yet to race.
We also have rising two year olds by Foreplay, Carnegie, Magic Albert, Stratum and Snippetson. These were weanling syndications and our owners benefitted being able to buy shares in these horses for much less than they would have cost as yearlings.
I was quite apprehensive when I started syndicating weanlings and wrote at the time that the proof would be in the pudding and as I write this it looks like being a very good pudding indeed.
The Stud
I have written many times that it is more important where a horse is reared than who its parents are. This filly was reared at Kambula Stud in South Australia. I purchased Rose Of Scotland from this famous South Australian nursery. Recently Pellizotti by Stratum, the winner of the Listed Dalrello Stakes was reared at Kambula Stud.
