I was thrilled to secure this filly. I have a big opinion of Bivouac and purchased two fillies by him last year which were from his first crop of yearlings. Both have displayed good ability with Cavalry Girl running a great second in the high rating Geelong Diamond Classic for 2yo’s on 4 January.
This filly passed all our checks. She is correct and vetted out without any issues. I expected her to fetch about $150,000 and was pleasantly surprised when we secured her for $120,000. This filly could well prove to be one of the best buys in the sale. We have achieved this several times over the years. Flying Jess, Rubisaki, Shadhavar, Emmadella and Seonee are recent examples of fillies we purchased from sales under the odds.
This athletic filly by Bivouac is from a great family with the 3rd dam being Private Steer, the Australian Champion 3YO Filly. Private Steer who is by Danehill Dancer. Danehill Dancer is the sire of Senro Kisaki the dam of Rubisaki and Zizzis. He is a great influence in any pedigree.
The 2nd dam Abbey Road is by one of the very best broodmare sires in the world in Street Cry. She only had two starts running a close second on debut and then winning her maiden. She was beaten a head on debut by the Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Peeping. Sadly, she was then retired after a paddock accident where she fractured a knee.
This Bivouac filly is out of the Vancouver mare Ticket To Ride which was placed 3rd in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes on debut and then 3rd in the Inglis Millennium Handicap and 4th in the Listed Lonhro Plate. Ticket To Ride has had just the one foal to race. He is named Red Barron who had two starts including a 6th in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate on debut at Flemington. I think it is a good sign Red Barron was aimed at a high profile 2yo stakes race on debut.
This filly looks like an early runner to me. She is an August foal out of a mare who was a fast 2yo filly. The filly heads to Tom Dabernig who trains the highly exciting Bivouac filly Cavalry Girl who was placed 2nd for Prime Thoroughbreds in the Geelong Diamond on 4 January, one of the highest rated 2yo races run in Australia this season.
Bivouac has started his stud career in great style with his five runners including the Group 2 winning filly Intention in NZ with three placed 2nd including Cavalry Girl who is being set for the $2,000,000 Inglis Millennium on 8 February at Randwick.
OUTSTANDING NURSERY
The filly was reared at Sledmere Stud in the Hunter Valley. It is one of our very best studs. The stud has been owned by the same family for decades and its reputation is second to none.
At the 2023 Spring Carnival, Sledmere Stud were the proud vendors of the winners of four stakes events which included a thrilling victory with Ozzmosis (Zoustar) in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes run on Derby Day at Flemington. The run of solid form comes as no fluke for Catriona and Royston Murphy’s Scone-based nursery, given their consignment have maintained an average of seven stakes wins every season for the past four years. Sledmere’s best season for stakes wins over this period came in 2020/21 which was largely thanks to Dame Giselle (I Am Invincible) who landed the first three legs of the lucrative Darley Princess Series. While the 2020/21 racing season was successful by total stakes wins, the 2022/23 season was an incredible period for the farm having been represented by four individual Group 1 winners including G1 Randwick Guineas winner Communist (Russian Revolution) and G1 Empire Rose Stakes winner Icebath (NZ) (Sacred Falls).
I have purchased some great fillies over the years from the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale including Seonee, Flying Jess, Hijack Hussy, Xtremetime, Calming, Huiskes, Hidden Wonder, Greenmount Belle, Unabated and Calming Influence.
