I look closely at the progeny of the First Season Sires and I have had terrific success supporting them over the years.
In recent times our good horses Rubisaki, Seonee, Fituese, Xtremetime, Power Of The Brave, Birdies Galore, Embeller and Miss Dive Em were by the new boys on the block.
The First Season Sires, particularly those standing at our more established studs often get the best book of mares in their first season. The stallion owners are keen to give their new sires the best possible opportunity to be a success.
I am all over Lucky Vega (Ire). He is a son of the Champion sire Lope De Vega who in turn is by Champion sire Shamardal.
Lope De Vega stood at Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm which had a lot of issues and was eventually wound up. He is an amazing fire with a stakes winners to winners ratio of 14.7% with 124 stakes winners from 844 winners. The best horses to race in Australia were Santa Ana Lana, Vega Magic, Gytrash, Arapaho and Vega One, all Group 1 winners.
Lucky Vega (ire) was a Group 1 winner in Ireland and a two time 2yo winner. He was purchased to stand in Australia with his first yearlings selling at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale where they averaged $140,000.
I was thrilled when I found this filly by Lucky Vega at the Inglis Classic Sale. She is out of the stakes placed I Am Invincible mare Pageantry. I know this family well with Pageantry being reared at Yarraman Park.
Pageantry has a 2yo colt named Paro by Alabama Express which was a $300,000 yearling and is in work with Peter Moody.
I Am Invincible had a great day with Kimochi out of one his daughters winning the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick on 17/02/24. This was followed up with Straight Charge winning the Silver Slipper Stakes and Kuroyanagi running 3rd in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
I Am Invincible is flying as a broodmare sire.
I expected this filly to fetch $80,000 to $100,000 and was thrilled when she was knocked down to me for $44,000.
This is an amazing cross with Champion mare Imperatriz being by I Am Invincible out of a Shamardal mare.
Only three foals out of Shamardal mares by I Am Invincible have raced with one being the nine time Group 1 winner Imperatriz, The GB stakes winning filly Lady Hamana and NZ 2yo colt Move To Strike with a win and stakes placing from just two starts. These are extraordinary figures.
Only one Lope De Vega mare has had a runner by I Am Invincible with it being placed at its only start.
This filly looks like a runner and an early type and I expect her to be a potential star in the Tasmanian 2YO races next season.
