I was taken by this filly when I inspected her at the Inglis Sales Complex. She was the first yearling I inspected on the site and was taken by her athleticism. She isn’t a heavy filly which I think is one of the keys to the progeny of Shalaa. I purchased a filly for Patrick last year that is a similar type of filly to this one.
I purchased two of the best fillies we have raced in Hidden Wonder and Hijack Hussy from Arrowfield for just $55,000 and $62,500. They returned $1,439,672 in stakes earnings and sales proceeds at the end of their racing careers. Hijack Hussy had a yearling make $400,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has an I Am Invincible colt in the Inglis Easter Yearling sale. Her first foal fetched $800,000.
Shalaa’s oldest runners in Australia are only 3yo’s with his best being the Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Shaquero. Shalaa finished 3rd on the Australian First season Sire’s List and is currently 5th on the 2nd season list with 25 winners. This places him 2nd behind Capitalist for winners which is a good effort.
Shalaa was a very good 2yo by Invincible Spirit winning five times at two including the Newmarket Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. He is the right type of sire for Australia.
Methyar (GB) is a very well credentialled mare by High Chaparral who is starting to make his mark as a brood mare sire moving from 111th spot five years ago to 46th currently on the Australian Broodmare List. It takes a few years for sires to make an impact on this list. The best-known runners out of his daughters in Australia are the Group 1 winners Suavito and Best Of Days. Brilliant Bordeaux, the brilliant 2yo winner of the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes is out of a High Chaparral mare.
The family of Methyar features Soffia, the Champion Older Female Sprinter in Europe in 2019. This is a great family with the 2nd and 3rd dams Listed or Group winners.
I’m thrilled to have secured this filly. She heads to Patrick Payne who does such a great job for us.
