Most of us know that STARSPANGLEDBANNER was an elite thoroughbred on the racetrack, winning 4 G1s in two different hemispheres during a devastating 3yo season that saw him win a Caulfield Guineas and Oakleigh Plate in Australia, before heading to the UK where victories in the July Cup at Newmarket and the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot stamped him as the best son of champion racehorse and sire CHOISIR!


But it’s in his new found career that he has thrown up even more incredible numbers.


Beginning as a Coolmore shuttle stallion in 2012 fertility issues have seen him with some very small crops from his first book’s of mares, including his first Northern Hemisphere crop of just 33. That said, even though small, statistically it was one of the best first crops left on a racetrack by any stallion. Of those 33 foals, 28 runners made the track and produced a massive 7 stakes-winners, including the G1 winning Champion 2yo Colt of France and ill-fated stallion THE WOW SIGNAL. With 75% runners to winners and a sensational 33% winners to stakes-winners from that crop, the breeding world was understandably excited, though with crops as small as 11 in his following 3 seasons, he was dropped from Coolmore’s roster and no longer promoted as they worked to fix those fertility issues, which have now been rectified, but is has allowed us to secure the progeny of a stallion with elite numbers, at what is incredible value, especially in this current climate.


To put him into comparison with some of the leading stallions, from his 49 winners and 8 stakes-winners to date, his winners have come at a strike rate of 68% which puts him in the class of FASTNET ROCK 69%, SNITZEL 70%, MEDAGLIA D’ORO 68% and SEBRING 63%, all the while with an inferior book of mares. His stakes-winners to winners strike-rate is even more impressive at 16%, which leaves almost every stallion in his wake, SNITZEL 13%, REDOUTE’S CHOICE 15%, WRITTEN TYCOON 6% and FASTNET ROCK 13% all can’t compare. While it’s also worth noting that 5 of his 8 stakes-winners have been fillies, just like our girl.


It’s not just the stallion that make this girl an attractive opportunity, her dam is the 4-time winning My Secret Luv, a ¾ sister to the multiple stakes-winner SECRET FLYER and also the ½ sister to the stakes-winning LUVULEO. It’s a family that includes plenty of black-type as well for a filly by a good stallion, with G3 Emancipation Stakes winner ALMAZYOON, G3 Spring Stakes winner EL MAZE also closely related, as well as the current very smart staying mare LUVALUVA who recently returned with a win in the G3 Kembla Grange Classic after previously taking out the G2 Wakeful Stakes.
