Success to the brave ! Maybe the title of this popular book by Alexander Kent applies to buying this colt .


He is different ! By a sire that the Australian market hasn't warmed to or maybe just not understood . Just standing the 1 season he only has 18 colts on the ground .


As a type he is an impressive solid brown colt with a snip on his nose , he is of good bone and muscle tone . He was inspected by NZB Inspector and accepted for their select sale ( letter available ),

The first 5 sires of this colt are Gr1 winners , four being multiple Gr1.


What about his dam ? She is an aged mare , part of the being brave thing , but so too was her full sister Popsy ( 2 years older ) , NZ Derby Gr1 Winner when she produced $1.45M yearling and Gr1 winner , now Sire Rock'n'pop ( photo 4 ) a few years ago . Making him a cousin to this colt.

SOAK UP THE SUN ( DESERT SUN ) . $97500 yearling . Gr2 placed . Won on debut as a 2yo , then 4/14 & 2/10 at Rosehill & Warwick Farm btn less than a length , then to the Golden Slipper lead up race , the STC Magic Nights S , Gr2 where she was placed behind SHAMEKHA who at her next start finished close up 4th in the GOLDEN SLIPPER behind Polar Success. Good 2yo.


UP'N'DOING ( JETBALL ) $92k yearling , was a 2yo trial winner , before debuting with a 2yo metro win at Rosehill , followed up at her next start with another 2yo win , this time at Randwick .


DESERT HEIRESS ( DESERT KING ) 2nd on debut at Sandown , then another 2nd at Geelong , at 4th start won at provincial Victoria . Contested the Gr1 VRC Oaks and was later a 3200m metro winner.


Bektris's progeny have been popular at auction , with results of $150,000 , $120,000 , $97,500 , $92,000 & $60,000 (2x)


Popsy's ( full sister to dam of colt ) progeny have been enormously popular with action results of $1,450,000 , $1,000,000 , $360,000 , $200,000 , $170,000 PI , $120,000 , $75,000 , producing a Gr1 winner to date.


This colt was accepted and inspected by NZB for their select sale as apart of the Esker Stud draft who sold his $1.45M cousin , but it was decided too costly an exercise to send him there much to their disappointment.


So maybe as you're leading this colt in after a victory , dare I say the 2015 Vic Derby , you could say to yourself , " I wasn't brave after all , just astute ".
