Description

Champion Thoroughbreds is very excited to present the last of our syndications for 2011 and the yearling, now 2YO, selected is a quality Shamardal filly out of the Flying Spur mare, Initial.

Selected and purchased by John O'Shea at the country's most selective yearling sale, the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. This filly was bred and grown out at the ultra successful Think Big Stud, who in recent years have produced the Gr1 VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume.

John O'Shea believes this filly has the quality, scope, and attitude to develop into a classic filly as an Autumn 2yo and Spring 3yo. "She is definitely built to run. She is as athletic a filly as I saw at Easter this year, and her walk and attitude puts her right up there with the very best fillies I have selected in previous years on type and conformation. Being by Shamardal, I also expect her to have good residual value when her racing days are over, which is always beneficial to new owners" - John O'Shea.

Sire, Shamardal, is a four time Gr1 winner over distances spreading from 1400m - 1600m and also out to 2100m, he has left progeny who have exceeded under Australian conditions such as Faint Perfume (VRC Oaks 2500m), Captain Sonador (Gr1 Epsom Hcp 1600m) and Shamoline Warrior (Gr 3 MRC Norman Robinson 2000m).

Dam, Initial, is by Flying Spur, who as a damsire has excelled with progeny such as Gr1 winners Sebring (STC Golden Slipper 1200m), Headway (VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes 1200m) and Grand Journey (WATC Derby 2400m) as well as Fort Lincoln (Karaka Millions 1200m) and Tullamore (Gr2 Brisbane Cup 2400m).

The pedigree has plenty of stakes winners to represent it, and the average distance of the family's runners is 1400m. This is very important when considering this filly is being aimed at the classic events for fillies, in that Shamardal and Flying Spur combined, are a good mix between speed and stamina, which is required to win at the top level.

This filly is BOBS qualified, nominated for the Inglis Race Series, as well as Golden Slipper and Golden Rose. She has concluded pre-training following a spell and is currently in training at the John O'Shea Randwick stable where she will be aimed to jump out of the barriers in 3-4 weeks.

She galloped for the first time on Saturday morning (10th of December) (see video's), trainer John O'Shea commented that she is in the top 5 horses of his entire stable! A HUGE rap!
