Part-owner Peter Brown is credited with the naming of promising stayer Bogie And Bacall who will chase a hat-trick of wins at Wagga on Friday.
The five-year-old steps out in the Bedrock Landscape Supplies Benchmark 56 Hcp over 2000 metres.
Local trainer Wayne Carroll, a former Sydney Swans AFL player, said he couldn't resist the name which was inspired by Carroll's property, Key Largo.
"Peter came up with the name. It's taken from the song and movie Key Largo," Carroll said.
The song Key Largo was popularised by Bertie Higgins in 1981 and has a line in it which says, `We had it all, just like Bogie And Bacall' in reference to the legendary Hollywood actors Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, who stared in the movie.
Since stepping up to 2000 metres, Bogie And Bacall, who is also raced by Carroll, his wife Cherie and sons Truman and Myles, has really hit his straps winning over the distance twice at Wagga on November 23 and December 9.
"He's bred to be a 2000 to 2400 metres horse and this time up he's started to mature," Carroll said.
"Last time in he was going fairly good but had back problems and we couldn't get him quite right.
"With maturity and time and help from an acupuncturist, he's finally coming real good.
"He's only five and I think the best is still ahead of him.
"We've been patient, now we're reaping the rewards. Who knows? This time next year we might have a pretty handy horse on our hands."
"(Jockey) Richard Bensley said he can feel the improvement in Bogie And Bacall.
"The horse is feeling well. There's no question he's going good.
"He's gained confidence from his recent wins. He's on top of his game."
