Trainer Tony Gollan admitted he had made a mistake in trying Rocket To Glory over longer trips after the gelding won the Gold Coast Stakes on Saturday.
Rocket To Glory ($10) defied the pattern of the day to lead all the way to beat the favourite Architect ($3) by a long head with a half head to Mr Favulous ($13) in third place.
Gollan said he had decided Rocket To Glory was a pure speed horse and in future he be would be sticking to races such as the Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba in May.
"I admit I made mistake last campaign when I tried to get him out to 1350 metres and 1400 metres," Gollan said.
"Rocket To Glory is simply fast and I won't be making him go further than 1200 metres," Gollan said.
He said he had not been worried by an apparent bias against leaders during Saturday's meeting.
"Whether it was the head wind in the back straight or not the leaders were stopping but they are not as fast as this horse," Gollan added.
Rocket To Glory has now won 13 races and more than $750,000 in prize money.
"I would love him to win a good race in the winter but we set him for this race and I will let him get over it before making future plans," Gollan said.
Trainer Bryan Guy called on some old associations to bring off an upset with Platinum State ($31) in the $150,000 Jupiters Open QTIS Plate (1400m).
Platinum State is raced by Geoff Goon whose father had horses with Guy's father Ray Guy at Rosehill from the 1960s.
Sydney two-year-old Secret Trail ($3.60) responded to a top ride from Larry Cassidy to beat the favourite Powerful Saga ($2.80) in the Tattersall's Racing Club Plate.
