Moore to ride Adelaide in Rosehill gallop

Monday 16 March 2015, 12:39pm

Champion English jockey Ryan Moore will give Cox Plate winner Adelaide a work-out in Sydney ahead of the horse's possible return at Rosehill.

Moore, ranked the world's top jockey and already the winner of the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup this season in Australia, will ride Adelaide if owners Coolmore decide to kick off his campaign in Saturday's Group One George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

"He will actually have a sit on him tomorrow morning at Breakfast With The Stars at Rosehill and that will give us an opportunity to hear his feedback on exactly where the horse is this preparation," Coolmore representative James Bester told Melbourne's RSN on Monday.

Bester said a George Ryder start for Adelaide, who has the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) next month as his Sydney target, depended on the weather.

"This is a horse we all know needs to hear his feet rattle to be effective and just the way the weather is in Sydney at the moment with soft tracks, that's far from a certainty," he said.

Bester said the heavy track for Adelaide's recent barrier trial at Warwick Farm did not allow him to show his acceleration.

Adelaide won the Cox Plate for champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien.

He has remained in Australia in the care of premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller for his autumn campaign and is scheduled to return to O'Brien for European summer races.

The George Ryder Stakes is one of five Group One races on Golden Slipper day.

Adelaide heads 16 nominations for the Ryder with Japanese visitors World Ace and Real Impact among the entries.

Waller's seven nominations include dual Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Falls.
