As the trainer of one of the Golden Slipper outsiders, Gerald Ryan believes the race is much more open than markets suggest.

But as the trainer of one of the favourites in the other Group One sprint at Rosehill on Saturday, Ryan hopes that race is more clear cut.

The unbeaten Vancouver remains the dominant Slipper favourite despite his wide barrier draw while Ryan saddles up Fireworks.

In the Galaxy (1100m) the trainer sends out high-profile colt Rubick who will be out to avenge his unlucky last-start third as favourite in the Group Two Challenge Stakes.

Rubick was one of the horses to work in the public eye at Rosehill on Tuesday morning and many regular track watchers were impressed.

"He worked very well as I expected and I was very pleased," Ryan said.

"He got caught on the fence last time and just couldn't get out.

"He's drawn barrier four again on Saturday so I hope it doesn't happen again.

"But that's Kerrin McEvoy's problem. There's nothing I can do."

By Encosta De Lago who was retired from active stud duty at Coolmore late last year, Rubick's dam is Sliding Cube is closely related to Redoute's Choice.

Coolmore owns a share in Rubick but Ryan said a stud deal had not been done.

"It's important for any colt that you buy as a potential stud prospect to win a Group One," Ryan said.

"It's very important to me that he wins one and hopefully that's on Saturday but there is no pressure from Coolmore."

"They own a share but they are happy to race him. There is no stud deal in place."

McEvoy found himself with nowhere to go in the straight in the Challenge won by Miracles Of Life from Va Pensiero.

Both are among his rivals again on Saturday with Miracles Of Life drawing barrier 14 and Va Pensiero 11.

Fireworks has a wide alley in the Slipper but Ryan is not concerned and says the Widden Stakes winner deserves her place.

"I think the Slipper is a hard race," he said.

"Vancouver will have to repeat a personal best to win and not many horses can do that.

"On the day he won the Canonbury, Fireworks ran a faster time and a faster last 600 metres.

"The wide barrier won't bother her as she gets back and I'm sure she will go well."
