Washington Heights out to shed maiden tag

Friday 20 March 2015, 4:14pm

Since they ran the quinella in the Kindergarten Stakes, the careers of the winner Hallowed Crown and runner-up Washington Heights have taken much different paths.

Hallowed Crown is favourite to claim his third Group One win in Saturday's Rosehill Guineas while Washington Heights will be out to break his maiden in the Group Three Sebring Stakes.

Trained by Gerald Ryan, Washington Heights has been placed three times from four starts in a short career interrupted by injury.

Under the set weights and penalties of the Sebring (1200m), Washington Heights drops from the 58kg he carried last start in a benchmark race at Rosehill to 56kg.

"He has been carrying ratings points because of his earlier stakes placings and he is still a maiden," Ryan said.

"This time he gets a chance with the weight."

Ryan was disappointed with Washington Heights' third at Rosehill and added blinkers to his gear for Saturday's race to help him concentrate.

On Friday, Washington Heights had edged Peeping for favouritism at $4.20 with the TAB ahead of his rival at $4.40.

Fillies Mossfun, last year's Golden Slipper winner, Melbourne visitor Tahni Dancer and the Ryan-trained Ygritte have all been diverted from the Sebring to run against their own sex in the Group Three Birthday Card (1200m).

Ygritte is a $9.50 chance with Mossfun the $3.40 favourite.

"Ygritte has a lot more ability than her form shows," Ryan said.

"She was second to Mossfun in the Widden last year and gets 2-1/2 kilos off her on Saturday which gives her a good chance."
