Fairytale debut win for The Big Dance

Saturday 21 March 2015, 3:49pm

The dream came true for connections of The Big Dance when the two-year-old took out the VOBIS Gold Rush at Bendigo on Saturday.

The daughter of Oamaru Force was a $750 yearling purchase and the 1000m victory secured connections a first prize cheque of $150,000 and $23,000 in bonus money.

Trainer Danny Curran purchased the filly at the VOBIS Gold sale last year and sent an email to clients explaining he was happy to keep her.

"They all wanted a piece of her and I was beating them off with a stick at the end," Curran said.

"We went to the VOBIS Gold sale to buy a VOBIS Gold horse to maybe win a maiden.

"Sometimes dreams come true."

Ridden by Dean Yendall, The Big Dance ($10) scored by 2-1/4 lengths from Bundy Red ($71), with Miss Gidget, the $4 favourite, a short neck away third.

Curran won the Group Three Typhoon Tracy at Moonee Valley last month with $101 outsider Written Dash, but described Saturday's victory as even more satisfying.

"It was fantastic to win with Written Dash, but I'm even more over the moon to win with this filly," he said.

"I really think she might be a spring horse because, to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't work Written Dash with her."
