Hucklebuck back for Goodwood tilt

Sunday 22 March 2015, 4:49pm

Group One winner Hucklebuck is back in work at Phillip Stokes' Adelaide stable with the trainer eyeing just one autumn target.

The four-year-old son of Elvstroem is being set for a one-off tilt at his home town premier sprint, the Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 16.

A dual winner during the Flemington spring carnival, Hucklebuck has been back in work at Morphettville for five weeks,

Hucklebuck won over 1400m on the first day of the four-day Melbourne Cup carnival before his career-high victory in the Group One Emirates Stakes (1600m) on the final day.

"He's been back in work for five weeks and he's nearly ready to start doing some even time," Stokes said.

"He'll have one run in the Goodwood and then go for another little break and come back for the spring."

Hucklebuck campaigned in Brisbane last winter, finishing fourth at Doomben before running sixth in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Stokes said Huckleback had shown him during that Brisbane campaign he was not suited by racing in the right-handed direction.

He was undefeated in the spring, winning the Durbridge Stakes before heading to Melbourne.

Stokes is delighted with how the gelding has come back following his break over summer.

"He looks really well," Stokes said.

"He spelled well and I'm really happy with how he's coming along."

Hucklebuck has raced on 13 occasions, registering eight wins and two minor placings with prizemoney of just over $1 million.
