Dunn initiative a difference on Shacarde

Saturday 28 March 2015, 2:02pm

A positive ride from Dwayne Dunn has helped Shacarde claim her first metropolitan-class win at Mornington.

Shacarde was second-up in Saturday's Window Warehouse Handicap (1200m) after a first-up Moonee Valley placing and Dunn elected to press forward to take up the running.

Starting at $5, Sharcade fought on in the straight and lasted to beat Ready To Fight who flashed home late to get within a half neck, with Been Scene a long neck away third.

"He (Dunn) grabbed the race by the scruff of the neck, he was just going to get caught a bit wide otherwise," co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.

"I think she has come on from her first-up run and she enjoyed a bit of sting out of the ground today. It was good to get a city win."

Dabernig said the Lindsay Park team didn't have any set plans for Shacarde but thinks she could be well placed in the coming months in Melbourne now the carnival is coming to a close.

Meanwhile, Dabernig said Gregers, who wears the same colours as Shacarde, had come through her close second first-up to Platelet over 955m at Moonee Valley on Friday night well.

"Her ultimate goal is the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide and she may have one run before that," Dabernig said.
