Disposition ready for Caulfield assault

Monday 30 March 2015, 4:43pm

A stable mishap forced Disposition out of the Australian Guineas but he is on track for a return to racing at Caulfield.

Disposition is among a strong list of 30 nominations for the Group Three Victoria Handicap over 1400m on Saturday.

Prepared by Wez Hunter, Disposition was high in the betting for the Group One Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 7 but slipped over at the stable, taking skin off a leg.

A track gallop on Saturday has Hunter convinced he is ready to return.

Disposition won his first four starts in Perth then ran two seconds for Grant Williams before owner Bob Peters decided to send him to Hunter for an eastern campaign.

The gelding ran a short neck second to Wandjina in the CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on February 21 with the winner going on to win the Guineas.

"There's no issues at all with where he took the skin off," Hunter said.

"It's all cleared up. His work has been good and he had a nice gallop on Saturday.

"I'll try and take him to Caulfield on Tuesday for a gallop and then he'll go to the Victoria Handicap."

Leading Perth jockey William Pike, who has ridden Disposition in five of his seven starts for three wins, will make the trip to partner the son of Reset on Saturday.

The 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon heads the list of nominations which also includes Saturday's impressive Mornington winner Under The Louvre.

Other entries are unlucky Newmarket Handicap runner Aeronautical, dual Flemington winner Amorino, Lord Of The Skye and Watermans Bay.

The Cleaner heads the 19 entries the day's other feature, the Group Three Easter Cup (2000m).

Trainer Mick Burles opted to bypass the Mornington Cup (2400m) to concentrate on the shorter race.
