Nursery win would be Sweet for Nickson

Friday 21 December 2012, 5:33pm

On exposed form Warwick Farm trainer Gary Nickson believes he has every reason to be confident ahead of Saturday's Inglis Nursery Stakes.

Nickson will saddle up debut winner Sweet Kiss in the $250,000 sales-restricted event at his home track and has hopes it won't be the only rich juvenile race the filly runs in this season.

"They have nominated her for everything, including the Slipper, and I honestly think she can go on," Nickson said.

"She bombed the start on debut at Newcastle but punched up to hold out the speed on her outside but then she just relaxed like an old horse.

"From what I've seen of the two-year-olds so far, I think she's as good as anything I've seen go around this year."

Sweet Kiss scored a debut win over 900 metres at Newcastle last month, defeating Madame Fly by 3-1/2 lengths.

Madame Fly was a subsequent midweek city winner at Warwick Farm.

Sweet Kiss will be ridden by Peter Robl who took out another big prize money juvenile race on Thursday when he partnered Assail to win the Magic Millions Wyong Classic.

Sweet Kiss is the $4.20 favourite for the Inglis Nursery (1000m).

Nickson, who trains a team of between 12 and 15 horses, is excited to have the filly in his stable.

"I need something like this," he said.

"Nice horses don't come around too often and I've just got to try to hang on to it."

Nickson plans to press on to the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) at Rosehill on January 19.

Only five of the 15 Inglis Nursery entrants have had race experience.
