Heart Testa keeps unbeaten sequence

Melbourne promises to be a new frontier but Chris Waller is never going to underestimate how hard it is to win a race in Sydney.

Twenty four hours after receiving the green light to set up a satellite stable at Flemington, Waller admitted to a case of rare pre-race nerves before Heart Testa gave weight to his rivals and extended his unbeaten record at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Heart Testa was the odds-on favourite to make it four victories from as many starts and Waller's anxiety issues were unfounded despite the three-year-old being left with only a neck winning margin in the Tab.com.au Handicap (1300m).

"I was nervous before the race and I don't get very nervous," Waller, who remains on target for a Sydney trainers' premiership record, said.

"It's very hard to carry 59 kilos for a three-year-old and he's not an overly big horse."

Waller, who will launch a Melbourne base in early 2013 after learning on Friday he has been granted a lease on 10 stable boxes at Flemington, says Sydney is still a benchmark in Australian racing.

"It might look as though the field isn't overly strong but it's Sydney racing and all Sydney form is very strong so he's done a good job (to win)," the trainer said.

Heart Testa eased from $1.50 to $1.70 but he was ridden like the best horse in the race as Jason Collett positioned him outside the leader Party Rocker.

Collett pushed Heart Testa to the front at the 300m and despite Magic Millions Guineas aspirant Harada Bay ($5.50) taking ground off the winner, the result was never seriously in doubt.

Waller is open-minded about Heart Testa's immediate program but some kind of autumn carnival appearance is at the forefront of his plans for the gelding.

"He might have a short freshen-up now but if there is a perfect race in two or three weeks he could be running," Waller said.

"It's all about getting prize money for the owners. I'm not just going to turn him out to look for the crack three-year-olds when they come back. We'll be looking for something easier."

Harada Bay, 23rd in order before Saturday, improved his chances of making the Magic Millions Guineas field.
