Pat Duff is confident Steel Zip has recovered from a setback and can revive his Magic Millions campaign in Tuesday's Goldmarket Handicap at the Gold Coast.

The trainer was forced to scratch Steel Zip from the Lough Neagh Stakes at Doomben on December 22 after the gelding suffered a leg injury.

"The day before the race there was a big storm and I think he might have taken fright in his box and cut his leg," Duff said.

"It wasn't anything serious but, naturally, it had to be treated and stitched which meant he couldn't run in the Lough Neagh."

Steel Zip will go into the Goldmarket without a run in five weeks but Duff believes he will still be competitive.

The Goldmarket will be the grey's final lead-up before his main goal, the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Coast on January 12.

Among his opposition on Tuesday will be Gundy Son whose trainer Robert Heathcote believes can end a long absence from the winning list.

The seven-year-old produced a glimpse of his best form when second to Delago Bolt at Doomben on December 22.

"Full credit to Delago Bolt who won decisively at Doomben but it was good to see old Gundy bounce back and hit the line like his old self," Heathcote said.

"That race was too short but there were some good signs the way he finished it off going to the 1300 metres of the Goldmarket.

"He won the Magic Millions Class Six Plate there a couple of years ago so getting back to the Coast and hopefully a dry track will suit him ideally."

Gundy Son will be aiming to win his first race since last year's Chief De Beers Quality at Doomben.

Heathcote has changed plans for two-year-old Greytfilly who will wear blinkers in her final Magic Millions lead-up at the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

"The float trip away, having a look at the track in front of a big crowd will be good experience," he said.

"I've worked her in blinkers in trackwork and was delighted with the way she reacted to them."
