Smith weighs up options for Dream Forward

Monday 31 December 2012, 4:26pm

Darren Smith is prepared to take his chances on Dream Forward forcing her way into the Magic Millions Classic field.

Dream Forward delighted Smith with her debut third in the Wyong Magic Millions but the youngster has only $18,000 prize money.

Smith has Dream Forward nominated for Warwick Farm but said his preference would be to trial the filly at Randwick on Friday and gauge the improvement she's taken from Wyong.

"We'll wait until Wednesday to make a final decision on whether she trials on Friday or races Saturday," Smith said.

"We'll most probably take the risk."

Smith said he wouldn't like to give the inexperienced filly a hard run on Saturday and back up in a Magic Millions.

If Dream Forward doesn't run and also misses a place in the Magic Millions, Smith said she would have a short break and be prepared for some of the fillies stakes races leading into the Golden Slipper.

"It would be great to have a runner in the Magic Millions but if you're playing catch up to be there you don't win too many," he said.

Dream Forward was third to Magic Millions Classic favourite Assail at Wyong.

"I was thrilled with her run at Wyong," Smith said.

"The experience this filly has had is zero and we were throwing her in the deep end.

"Not only that, had she drawn a barrier and seen the fence it could have been a different story."

There were 23 nominations for the Warwick Farm 2YO Plate including Group Three Maribyrnong Plate winner Direct Charge from the Robbie Laing stable.

Inglis Nursery winner Twilight Royale is also nominated.

Twilight Royale defeated Fuerza in the $250,000 Nursery which gave trainer Bjorn Baker the quinella in the race.
