Corey Brown will undergo shoulder surgery on Wednesday, 24 hours after a drama-packed New Year's Day for the leading jockey at Rosehill.

Brown won the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup with a daring move on Moriarty inside the final 100 metres, was suspended for an earlier ride and given a dressing down for perceived tension between him and fellow rider Glyn Schofield.

But uppermost in his mind was the pain in his shoulder from an injury suffered almost two years ago and the imminent surgery which he had hoped to delay as long as possible.

"The plate has shifted and the screws have come loose," Brown said.

"Pain killers don't help and I'm getting operated on tomorrow."

Brown aggravated the situation last Thursday in a barrier incident at Gosford.

The careless riding suspension became incidental to Brown's absence from the track and his obvious discomfort from his shoulder.

He was outed until January 19 for directing his mount on to Schofield's horse at the 1100m in an 1800m race.

Presiding steward Greg Rudolph said tension between Brown and Schofield had been brewing for some time.

"You are senior jockeys in the room and we ask you to set the standard," he told the riders.

"There has been niggling between the two of you over the past weeks.

"We don't want it spilling out on to the playing field.

"We don't want stop you being competitive but we don't want to underestimate what could be a grave situation."

Rudolph also chided Brown for accepting rides later this week and said he should have informed stewards on Monday evening when he decided on the operation.

Schofield, who denied there was any animosity between the two riders, said he had in fact recommended Brown see his own specialist who had got him back to the track in less than three weeks after he broke a collarbone.

Leading apprentice Sam Clipperton has his momentum stopped slightly when he earned a suspension for his ride on the unplaced Monton in the Tattersalls Cup.

Clipperton's interference was low range and he will serve just three meetings after January 5 and return the following Saturday.
