You will do very well to see him interviewed as he is without doubt one the industry’s more media shy individuals. At the same time Geoff Grimish is also one of racing’s most generous participants. Racing has often in the past had it's share of shady characters but it sure does have a large dose of good people and there are few better than Geoff Grimish.
A successful and astute businessman, Geoff Grimish flies under the radar with most of his charities, both domestically as well as with his Vietnamese orphanages. A veteran of the Vietnam war, this is just one charity very close to Geoff’s large heart. Wednesday's ATC meeting at Newcastle threw up another example of this man’s generosity.
As a foundation shareholder in Dane Shadow, Geoff has some well bred progeny starting to come through as racehorses and the word is out on two of his 2yo’s. Contrite Heart (from former Champagne Stakes winner Dan Baroness) and Flak Jacket (a full brother to Shellscrape and Red Tracer). As a part of his stallion’s new generation of exciting progeny hitting Australian race tracks, Wednesday unveiled another well bred Dane Shadow youngster on the up with Fourtracks Forkids impressive victory (Dane Shadows 4th city winner for the week). From the Stakes winning Second Empire mare Empire Dancer (who won the WATC Belmont Oaks), Fourtracks Forkids is expected to relish more ground after coming from the tail of the field to gobble up her more fancied opponents over the 1200 mtrs.
It appears Fourtracks Forkids is a filly with a future and with Geoff and jockey Nathan Berry donating all prize money to the Fourtracks Forkids charity, this story has the potential to be one of racing’s feel good stories of the Autumn.
