The Cranbourne Turf Club is offering a million dollar inducement for potential Cox Plate runners to compete in the Cranbourne Cup.
With the backing of Tabcorp, the club is offering the $1 million if the winner of the Cranbourne Cup on October 11 can also win the Cox Plate 13 days later.
Mick Burles, trainer of Tasmanian star The Cleaner, said he would consider the Cranbourne Cup if he thought the eight-year-old needed another start before the Cox Plate.
The Cleaner is set to run in the Group One Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
First prize of $1.8 million in the Cox Plate on top of the $180,000 first prize in the Cranbourne Cup would earn connections close to $3 million if a horse was successful in both races.
