Triple Elegance ends drought with Cup win

Saturday 12 January 2013, 6:55pm

The Stradbroke Handicap is looming as a Group One winter goal for Triple Elegance after he rediscovered winning form in the Magic Millions Cup.

An absentee from the winners' list for more than a year, Triple Honour ($14) showed signs of the form that saw him rated a Doncaster prospect two season ago when he won the Cup by a length from Gundy Son ($31) with Stratford ($9) a similar margin away third.

Liam Prior, stable manager for trainer Chris Waller, said the Stradbroke was likely to be on the agenda for Triple Elegance.

"We tried him in the Stradbroke last year but I think getting a win back on the board will help build his confidence levels," Prior said.

"We've tried different things with gear adjustments and a change of riders and it's all come together for him."

Prior said the Cup was an afterthought for Triple Elegance after he failed in the Villiers Stakes last month.

"Different surroundings and the trip away from home has done him the world of good," he said.

"Although it was a bit of an afterthought the race had good prize money and he was obviously qualified."

In the short term, Triple Elegance will return to Sydney to have a short spell before preparing for late autumn and winter goals.

"Usually with horses like this when they have a kill they can go on to better things so hopefully that will be the case again."
