Group-placed gelding We've Got This makes his return at Caulfield with trainer Greg Eurell optimistic about the four-year-old's first-up prospects.
We've Got This is the $3.20 favourite for Saturday's The Cove Hotel Plate (1200m) after a recent Cranbourne barrier trial win.
"I thought it was a really good trial. He was ridden off the speed and allowed to work home and he hit the line under a good hold," Eurell said.
"I'm very happy with his preparation and this looks a very suitable race to kick off his preparation."
We've Got This posted his only win in six starts in a Cranbourne maiden on debut last year but he showed enough talent for Eurell to start him in the Group Two Euclase Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds in Adelaide in May when he finished third.
Eurell said We've Got This was inexperienced and immature last preparation.
"It looks like he's progressed forward from last preparation and he's a horse with quite a bit of ability," he said.
Eurell said he wouldn't throw We've Got This into the deep end but would like to tackle better races than Saturday's if the gelding can improve his rating.
The Cranbourne trainer is also hopeful Petite Diablesse can land a second city win in the Art Series Hotel Group Plate (1440m) in what could be her racetrack swan song.
The six-year-old, a Group Three Vanity Stakes placegetter as a three-year-old, was a close-up sixth in the Cockram Stakes first-up before a fourth to Kayjay's Joy in a benchmark race at Caulfield.
"She's in good order and it looks a nice race on Saturday to hopefully pick up another city win," Eurell said.
"She's certainly a very fit mare."
Eurell said Petite Diablesse's owner, Maurice Messara, wanted to send the mare to stud.
"If she was to race again (after Saturday), it would probably only be one more run. If she won on Saturday it might encourage him to look for another race," he said.
