Badawiya may back up for Thousand Guineas

Lightly-framed filly Badawiya may back up into the Thousand Guineas after her impressive win at Group Two level at Flemington.

Badawiya graduated from a midweek city win to score an impressive win against her own gender in the Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on Sunday.

Trainer Mick Price will now mull over the six-day back-up into the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield on Saturday.

He said the diminutive filly would need some tender loving care over the next few days if she was to make her way to the Thousand Guineas.

"There'd be no gallop for her," Price said.

"I think we'd lead her off the pony, swim her and give her a bit of TLC.

"It is a Group One and there won't be too many opportunities for her."

Ridden by Damien Oliver, Badawiya ($4.80) scored a two length victory over Sacred Eye ($4.40) with My Popette ($7.50) 1-1/2 lengths away third.

Weighing in at around 420kg, Badawiya's energy amazes her trainer.

"I don't know where she gets all her energy from," Price said.

"She's a little mouse of a thing but she's got a great motor in her."

Oliver was impressed with the victory and said he could not see why the filly could not train on to something further.

"She had a good run, cruised up and showed good acceleration," Oliver said.

"She'd be up to it (Thousand Guineas), but she's a filly I think that can train on for further also."
