Leading Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman will miss the Caulfield Cup after pleading guilty to careless riding in the Epsom Handicap.
Bowman was suspended for eight meetings on Thursday when stewards resumed an inquiry into his winning ride on Winx.
Stewards had considered charging Bowman with improper riding but they were satisfied contact between the jockey's left elbow and fellow rider Blake Shinn was not deliberate.
They found Bowman's actions at the 500m were "instinctive and accidental" as Winx was momentarily held up when Kirramosa swept around the outside of his mount and Sons Of John improved to his inside.
Bowman is free to ride on Cox Plate day but he will forfeit the mount on overseas stayer Trip To Paris in the Caulfield Cup.
The ban will also cost Bowman the ride on Sydney sprinter Terravista in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Winx was the first leg of a weekend Group One double for Bowman as he rode Preferment to win the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.
But he will have to part company with one horse to ride the other with the stablemates scheduled to clash in the Cox Plate.
Bowman returned from a spring carnival suspension last year in time to win the VRC Oaks on Set Square and the Darley Classic on Terravista.
