Vlad Duric would like nothing better than to land the Caulfield Guineas at the track that has given him his greatest success.

Duric rides Adelaide galloper Last Bullet in the Guineas at the racecourse where he has notched his only three Melbourne Group One victories.

His first came aboard Bon Hoffa in the 2007 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes before guiding Master O'Reilly to win that year's Caulfield Cup.

Duric had to wait almost eight years to claim his next when Mourinho won the Underwood Stakes last month.

Last Bullet produced an eye-catching performance when finishing eighth behind Bon Aurum in the Guineas Prelude over 1400m on September 26, earning him a shot at Saturday's Group one race.

The son of High Chaparral flashed home late in the race, finishing under two lengths from the winner.

Duric said the step up in journey is ideal for the colt he said will continue to improve with maturity and more ground.

"I'm just hoping it's run at a good tempo as that will give us a chance to come from back in the field," Duric said.

"The mile's going to be better for him and I think he's taken really good improvement out of his two runs here.

"I've also learned a bit more about him."

Despite drawing barrier six, Duric said the colt didn't have the tactical speed to take a handy position despite winning two races in Adelaide racing outside the leader.

He said the colt has shown no speed in his two Melbourne contests but has produced a terrific finishing burst.

"I've ridden a few of the family and they've all been that type of horse, get back and run on," he said.

Duric said he gets the call-up from Last Bullet's trainer John Hyam whenever he makes the trip to Melbourne and is only too happy take the ride.

He said winning a big race for Hyam would give him a little extra satisfaction.

"I'd love nothing better than to win a nice race for him, he's such a nice guy," Duric said.

Spring pickings have been slim for Duric, who also rides Kenjorwood in the Toorak Handicap, but he's looking forward to reuniting with Underwood Stakes winner Mourinho in Cox Plate.

"I only have to win one of the big ones to make it worthwhile," he said.
