Paul Perry has bolstered his Newcastle stable with an influx of young horses, an investment that is paying early dividends.
Jeanneau finished second in last Saturday's Gimcrack Stakes and a week later Conchita stamped herself as a filly of promise with victory in the 2YO Plate (1000m) at Randwick.
Conchita ($7.50) took the lead shortly after the start and kept going strongly to the line to hold off Zafina ($17) by 1-3/4 lengths with the favourite Star Turn ($2.05) making some ground late for third after a less than perfect start.
Perry said the filly would now be set on a path to the Magic Millions in January.
"She looks like a Magic Millions sort of filly," Perry said.
"She will improve further on what she's done today. She climbs a bit in her action but is learning fast.
"We can give her a bit of a break and head to the Gold Coast."
The filly is one of the first Australian crop by Uncle Mo and is named for Conchita Wurst, the bearded winner of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Perry took time out earlier this week to visit Coolmore Stud which stands Uncle Mo, the leading first season sire of two-year-olds in the United States.
"We bought some nice yearling this year and I've got a couple of Uncle Mos and they are really nice horses," Perry said.
"He is doing fabulously in America."
Perry put the polish on 2005 Golden Slipper winner Stratum and also developed the careers of Choisir and Fastnet Rock who both stand at Coolmore.
