Buffering summer program yet to be decided

Monday 12 October 2015, 3:09pm

Star sprinter Buffering has raced in four Australian states and travelled to Hong Kong but has never travelled down the highway from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.

That could change this season with trainer Robert Heathcote eyeing the Magic Millions carnival in January in preference to the Perth summer sprints.

The eight-year-old sprinter has thrived since he won his fifth Group One race when he defended the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley earlier this month.

Buffering will have his next start in the Group One Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday week then contest the Group One Darley Classic at Flemington on November 7.

What he does after that is still to be decided.

"I am in two minds at the moment," Heathcote said.

"In fact I am 50-50 on the issue. He would be perfect for the million dollar sprint race at the Gold Coast in Magic Millions carnival."

"But he would also be suited at weight for age in Perth. There is no rush to see where he goes just yet."

He said Buffering had done very well since his fighting Moir win.

"I watched him work on Saturday morning and he was like a three year old. He is a long way off being finished just yet," Heathcote said.

In the spring of 2013, Buffering won the Manikato and the Sprint Classic before travelling to Perth where he took out the Group One Winterbottom Stakes.

Last year he travelled to Hong Kong where he finished a creditable sixth in the International Sprint won by Aerovelocity.
