Days after completing a Group One double, the Lindsay Park stable has backed up with victory in the feature race on the middle day of the Caulfield Cup carnival.
Exciting three-year-old sprinter Keen Array captured Wednesday's Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes to give trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig another black type win.
Criterion and Stay With Me provided the pair with victories in the Caulfield Stakes and Thousand Guineas respectively on Saturday and Hayes is looking to Keen Array to step up in grade again.
Ridden by Damian Lane, Keen Array ($2.30 fav) scored by a long neck from Mogador ($4.40) with Haptic ($5) three-quarters-of-a-length away third.
Hayes said Keen Array was his best two-year-old last season but had his preparation stopped through shin soreness which Hayes said had been a bonus.
"He was my best two-year-old last year but went shin sore and he didn't have the hard time in Sydney and it's paying dividends now," Hayes said.
"He's my best three-year-old sprinter clearly and I don't think there's too many better in Australia."
Hayes has picked out the Group Three Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley on October 24 as a suitable race for Keen Array, although he has the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on October 31 in the back of his mind.
Keen Array was successful on the synthetic tracks at Geelong and Pakenham before being beaten by Bassett at Caulfield on September 19.
He made amends winning at Moonee Valley in quick time on October 2.
Lane joined forces with Keen Array at the start of the preparation saying he should be unbeaten this campaign.
He said greenness counted against him when he was beaten by Bassett and that greenness almost cost him again on Wednesday.
Lane said after a slow beginning he settled a little further back than was intended which only added merit to the win off a slow pace.
"I thought I'd be one out one back in that second line but he was a little slow out," Lane said.
"It's a good sign that he's got another string to his bow."
Hayes and Dabernig won the Spicer Thoroughbred Handicap with He Of She after placings with He's Our Rokki, Firehouse Rock and Purple Smile earlier in the day.
