Champion sire Fastnet Rock posted his fourth stakes-winner in less than a week when Fast ‘n’ Rocking (5g Fastnet Rock x For the Good Times, by Hennessy) saluted in the Listed MRC Italktravel Stakes at Caulfield on Wednesday.
Ridden by Michael Walker for the in-form stable of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Fast ‘N’ Rocking charged home over the concluding stages from well back in the field to win the 1200 metre sprint by two and a quarter lengths.
It was the third stakes win for the 5yo gelding taking his overall record to five wins and six placings from 32 starts for earnings of $965,500.
“If you get him in a fast-run 1200 since he’s been gelded, he’s never let me down,” said Hayes.
“We might run him in the Manikato and sit him back and get him to run on.
“He’s hopeless up the straight. He is a genuine horse, he’s not a thinker but he hates the straight, his failures have been up the straight.”
“He’s generally better if they go hard and you let him rattle home. I’d love to see his sectionals today I bet there off the clock.”
Bred by Peter Devitt and the late Les Gordon, Fast ‘n’ Rocking was raised at Widden Stud and retained to race.
He is the best of four winners from stakes-winner For the Good Times.
He is the fifth Australian stakes-winner this season for Fastnet Rock, who leads the Australian General Sires List by earnings.
