Jockey Mark Zahra will be reunited with Fontiton in the Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield when the filly chases her first win of the season.
Zahra rode Fontiton in all her four two-year-old starts for three wins and a fifth in the Blue Diamond for which she was favourite.
He could not make the weight when Fontiton resumed at weight-for-age with 51kg in the Group One Moir Stakes, finishing eighth, two lengths behind Buffering.
Zahra rode Angelic Light to a close third in the Moir while Craig Williams partnered Fontiton.
Trainer Robert Smerdon is aiming Fontiton at the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31 and said the Listed Alinghi Stakes for fillies and mares was a better option than the Group Two Caulfield Sprint (1000m) on Saturday's program.
"It was a tough run in the Moir. She was on speed doing a lot of work but she come out of it pretty good. She's got a good constitution," Smerdon said.
"We're heading towards the Coolmore which has been the aim for the preparation and we thought the 1100 metres was a good progression two weeks before the Coolmore."
Fontiton is at $6.50 on Saturday with the Kris Lees-trained Brook Road the $5 favourite.
Brook Road finished just in front of Fontiton when seventh in the Moir.
