PRIME DISPATCH
Edition 87 – 14/10/2015 Compiled by Joe O’Neill
Hugh Bowman has been towelling up his opposition in recent weeks.
He is Australia’s best rider by a minute at present. From time to time you see a person who is head and shoulders above their opposition. This is certainly the case with Hugh Bowman at present. Rightly or wrongly I’ve always regarded Darren Beadman as the best rider I have seen in my time in racing. Hugh is now certainly as good as Darren and if he continues to improve will surpass him. Hugh is a super star of our sport and unlike some of his opponents let’s his riding do the talking for him. Some of his rides in the past 2 weeks have been outstanding and to use an old saying ‘has pulled his opponents pants down’ on more than one occasion recently.
Unfortunately we won’t see Hugh continue his wizardry this weekend due to a suspension but I hope they decide to run Press Statement again in the carnival and Hugh gets to ride the wonderful colt. Hugh is always a pleasure to deal with and we are lucky he is our main rider in NSW. He works hard and deserves the success and recognition he is receiving.
AT THE TRACK
We are at last starting to get a decent flow of runners. Recently I wrote that we are in a transitional phase where a large number of our older horses have moved on and the new wave are starting to strut their stuff.
Today Miss de Vega made her debut at Warwick Farm today and was impressive in a race too short for her. She had a tricky gate to contend with but was well ridden.
Tomorrow Go Arrivederci heads to Gosford where she has finally drawn a decent gate and has the inform Brenton Avdulla aboard. She should be competitive
Later in the week we look like having Annaman at Ipswich, Hazy Blur at either Scone, Wyong or Cessnock with Isthmian set to make her debut probably at Randwick on Saturday where again we haven’t had much luck with the barriers.
WEEKEND RACING
The weekend again promises to be a big one on the track with the running of the Caulfield Cup. To be honest it is a lottery with so many different form lines to take into account. For the record I like Haukari from Hokko Brave and Royal Descent. I’d love to see Kris Lees win the race and wish his runners well although they both probably need softer conditions than they are likely to get.
I am astounded that Complacent and Magic Hurricane failed to get a run.
The Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick is a cracker of a race with Flippant taking on the exciting colt Hellbent. Great race.
My best is Honesta in the Ethereal Stakes for John Thompson. She is a terrific prospect.\
BILL RUTLEDGE OAM
I was sorry to hear of Bill Rutledge’s death. He was a great person and wonderful administrator who filled a number of important positions in NSW racing. He will be well remembered by all who knew him. He was a true gentleman.
Hinchinbrook filly out of Princess Anna 2014- John Thompson to train at Randwick
10% shares $7,900,
This filly is a strong nicely balanced athlete that gets around well and has a real presence about her. She is very strong behind and through the hocks which is a characteristic of the progeny of Hinchinbrook.
I Am Invincible filly out of Belle Amici 2014- Darren Weir to train in Victoria
10 shares @ $10,500
The filly pictured above is a terrific filly by the outstanding young sire I Am Invincible from the well related Catbird mare Belle Amici. I have inspected her four times at Yarraman Park since May and was keen to purchase her. She is a very good type of filly with a good hindquarter, great conformation and a attractive head.
