What the Caulfield Cup jockeys said

Saturday 17 October 2015, 7:22pm

What the jockeys said after the Group One $3 million BMW Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

Opie Bosson (Mongolian Khan) 1st: He's taken me to my biggest heights in racing. And this is by far my biggest thrill in racing. He could probably go around again. He just loves staying and look out in the Melbourne Cup.

Tommy Berry (Trip To Paris) 2nd: I don't think anyone would miss the run, he travelled really well for me in the run. Every time I asked of him he picked up well and he sprinted through the gap at the top of the straight. I thought I was going to pick up the winner but he stole a bit of a march but the Melbourne Cup looks to be the right race for him now.

Ben Melham (Our Ivanhowe) 3rd: He was there to win but probably the improvement that's there to come stopped him late. Hopefully he tightens up from that and I'm looking forward to seeing him at the two miles.

Chad Schofield (Gust Of Wind) 4th: A really good run. We had a lovely spot, the others sprinted a bit better than her but she was really solid through the line.

Damien Oliver (Snow Sky) 5th: He ran well. Just held up around the turn and worked to the line nicely. A good Melbourne Cup trial and Flemington will suit him better.

Zac Purton (Fame Game) 6th: As expected, it was always going to be a bit short. But he did what we wanted.

Blake Shinn (Who Shot Thebarman) 7th: He just felt like he wants the big open stretches at Flemington and he'll be right in it.

James McDonald (Hauraki) 8th : He ran a good race, he was slow out of the gates because he was in there too long. He was first in the gates and jumped a bit slowly.

Dwayne Dunn (Lucia Valentina) 9th: She ran well, just a little bit of jar out of the track would've helped her. Also had a few traffic issues in the straight but she acquitted herself very well.

Craig Williams (Hokko Brave) 10th: I had no favours in the run and he's run really well.

Jim Cassidy (Grand Marshal) 11th: Happy enough, ticking over right.

Craig Newitt (Volkstok'n'barrell) 12th: He had no luck, he got put out of the race about the 700 or 800 (metre mark) when Royal Descent fell in a hole."

Damian Lane (Rising Romance) 13th: A bit disappointing. She got held up late.

Dean Yendall (Magnapal) 14th: He went as good as he can go. I think he just felt the track late."

Brenton Avdulla (Protectionist) 15th: Just didn't finish it off.

Kerrin McEvoy (Set Square) 16th: Ended up in front which wasn't the preferred plan. I thought we had a nice enough time of it to have a bit more of a kick than what we did from the 500 (metre mark) home.

James Winks (Magicool) 17th : Just wasn't good enough on the day.

Glen Boss (Royal Descent) 18th : She just doesn't stay 2400 (metres)
