While his stable star won't be contesting a Group One sprint this weekend, Noel Mayfield-Smith is looking forward to the debut of a two-year-old with promise.

Million dollar earner Famous Seamus, a close third in last year's Manikato Stakes, will not run in the race on Friday night with his trainer nominating a Group Three race on Saturday week as the next target.

Waldo Waldorf will kick his career off in the Pierro Plate (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday.

"He trialled nicely at Warwick Farm and I think he is a colt with above average ability," Mayfield-Smith said.

"It was a nice easy trial and he has done well since."

Waldo Waldorf, who cost $26,000 at the Inglis Classic Sale, is one of the first crop by Salade who made a dashing debut for the late Bart Cummings with victory in the 2011 Group Two Pago Pago Stakes.

Salade finished midfield in Sepoy's Golden Slipper then spent almost a year away from the track with an injury and never recaptured his two-year-old form.

There were just six entries taken on Monday for the juvenile race including two from the Godolphin stable, Chipanda and Medaille and Canberra youngster Cliff.

The Gary Portelli-trained Zafina, second on debut to Conchita at Randwick on October 10 and Star Turn, who ran third in the same race for Hawkes Racing, are the only two with raceday experience.

Mayfield-Smith said he had about 12 two-year-olds on the books, an increase on the past few years.

"Our numbers have picked up over the past couple of years so things are going well," he said.

Group One winner Famous Seamus has been the mainstay of the stable over the past few years and the trainer says he has come through his seventh in Saturday's Moonga Stakes in good order.

It was the seven-year-old's second start at Caulfield and most likely his last.

"He ran third to Lankan Rupee in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes a couple of years ago but didn't really handle the track," Mayfield-Smith said.

"He was three-deep the whole way on Saturday and didn't handle the downhill run to the turn.

"I think now he's older he's racing like a 1400 metre horse so he'll to the Group Three race (Chatham Stakes) at Flemington on Derby day."
