Tommy Berry has been confirmed as the rider of English stayer Trip To Paris in the Melbourne Cup.
Berry rode the Ed Dunlop-trained galloper in the Caulfield Cup when he was a fast-finishing second to Mongolian Khan and the jockey immediately offered to stick with the horse in Australia's richest race.
On Tuesday night, he was confirmed to ride Trip To Paris in the $6 million race at Flemington on November 3.
"Obviously it was a very exciting run in the Caulfield Cup," Berry said.
"We all know he can stay, he's won an Ascot Gold Cup.
"His only worry was whether he could show a turn of foot over a shorter trip. He did that the other day (in the Caulfield Cup) so he sort of ticks all the boxes now."
The jockey believes Trip To Paris is well weighted in the Melbourne Cup with 55kg, a kilogram less than Mongolian Khan who received a 1kg weight penalty for his Caulfield Cup win.
Trip To Paris shares the second line of Melbourne Cup betting with Mongolian Khan at $7.50 with Japanese horse Fame Game the $4.60 favourite.
