Buffering in good order after tough run

Sunday 25 October 2015, 3:27pm

Star Brisbane sprinter Buffering has come through his fifth in the Manikato Stakes in good order after a much tougher run than his trainer would have liked.

Rob Heathcote said Buffering was bright and alert after the hard run when he was attacked in the lead in the Group One sprint at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

"Noel Callow on Rich Enuff kept at us the whole way," Heathcote said.

"It was frustrating to be involved in a frantic speed battle up front. I know it's part of racing but I don't understand the tactics of Noel Callow and I think he later admitted he may have erred.

"He kept firing up Buffering. We have run fifth and Rich Enuff ran last.

"But full credit to Chautauqua. I don't think there is any doubt he's the world's best sprinter.

"All I can say is I was proud of my horse as he tried his hardest as always."

Heathcote said Buffering would press on towards another clash with Chautauqua in the Darley Classic at Flemington on November 7.

The trainer os also leaning towards taking Buffering back to Perth where he won the 2013 Group One Winterbottom Stakes.

Heathcote's other option is to head home to Queensland and set Buffering for the Magic Millions Sprint in January.
