Tasmanian star The Cleaner will miss the Emirates Stakes but his spring carnival is far from over.
Trainer Mick Burles sent The Cleaner for tests after the crowd favourite finished a well-beaten seventh to Winx in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
The tests revealed The Cleaner had an elevated white cell count and he is receiving treatment which will force the eight-year-old to miss the $1 million Emirates Stakes at Flemington on Saturday week.
But Burles expects The Cleaner to recover in time to contest the Sandown Stakes on November 14.
"The Sandown race is only a Group Three but at least it gave us an option," Burles told tasracing.com.au.
Burles said The Cleaner had also been treated by a chiropractor who found some twinges that may explain why the horse ran away from the rail at the 600m.
The Cleaner will be one of the star attractions during the Tasmanian summer racing carnival with Burles planning starts in the Tasmanian Stakes and the George Adams Plate.
