Trainer fined $10,000 for positive swab

Thursday 17 January 2013, 2:59pm

Eagle Farm trainer Jeff Caught has been fined $10,000 following a positive swab inquiry.

Caught pleaded guilty to administering the banned substance ethacrynic acid to Soft Angel the day before the mare won at Ipswich on November 9.

A post-race urine sample taken from Soft Angel tested positive to the diuretic medication which is similar to Lasix and is banned in Australia.

Stewards took into account Caught's "honest and forthright" evidence before issuing the hefty fine based on his "poor record" for similar offences.

Caught's previous breaches of the rules include one which resulted in a 12 month ban in late 2006 for a bi-carbonate offence.

Soft Angel was disqualified with runner-up Perfect Cube declared the winner.
