Dettori upbeat about Golden Horn chances

Golden Horn "felt good" on Thursday morning as he worked at Keeneland in preparation for the final race of his career in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

The Derby, Eclipse, Irish Champion and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner bids to end on the perfect high and rider Frankie Dettori was happy after dismounting, despite the deluge of rain that has hit the Kentucky venue this week.

"He felt good and the ground was soft. Today was more to get him used to the bend and the scenery, and he was very straight," Dettori said.

"I think the ground has dried a bit, but it would take a couple more days to put it close to what he wants.

"I'm enjoying every moment out here, I like to bask in the Breeders' Cup atmosphere and I have some good rides at the Breeders' Cup apart from Golden Horn.

"It's very hard to win here, but we will give it a good go and after the Melbourne Cup I will have time to reflect on the great year I've had."

Trainer John Gosden remains mindful of conditions for his colt, who suffered his only defeat on good to soft ground in the Juddmonte International at York.

"The ground is a concern, I've been out there and it's what you would expect after all that rain. You would call it soft, with good to soft in places, but it's still loose," Gosden said.
