A filly at the start of her career and an accomplished stayer with a future over the jumps will book-end Colin and Cindy Alderson's Flemington team on Saturday.
The father-daughter training partnership is hoping race experience will work to the advantage of two-year-old Devil Woman when she chases her first win in the Nursery Plate (1100m).
Seven-year-old dual stakes placegetter Montgomery kicks off his latest campaign in the Craftsman Handicap (1720m).
Devil Woman has been placed at her only two starts at Cranbourne and Caulfield but will face a new challenge when she tackles the straight course on Saturday.
"I'd prefer 1200 for her and obviously going down the straight is something she's not accustomed to and has never seen before having been trained here (at Cranbourne)," Cindy Alderson said.
"That being said she's had two starts and is more experience than most of the others."
Montgomery resumes against a handy field which includes import Buxted and the consistent Lord Of Brazil.
The gelding has been a good money-spinner for connections but Alderson believes his long-term future lays over the hurdles.
He has got his ticket to go over the jumps should his owners opt to go that way this season.
"He's a good jumper and he enjoys it so you'd be silly not to have a go at it, especially now his flat career is not as lucrative as it once was," she said.
"Having said that the horse is in great shape and while I don't think this race will be suitable on Saturday, we couldn't be happier with the way he's going at the moment."
Their Saturday squad also includes Stardom in the second race and Captura in the Leonard Handicap (1410m).
Vlad Duric will ride all bar the latter who will be partnered by premiership pacesetter Glen Boss.
