Fame Game's eye-catching Caulfield Cup performance has strengthened his grip on Melbourne Cup favouritism but Trip To Paris's jockey Tommy Berry believes his horse's lead-up was more ideal.

Berry is confident Caulfield Cup runner-up Trip To Paris is capable of delivering him and English trainer Ed Dunlop a first Melbourne Cup after riding the stayer in pace work on Sunday at Werribee.

"I was (already) confident before today, but after sitting on him and feeling how sharp he was this morning, I'm pretty stoked," Berry said.

"I think he's definitely come on from his Caulfield Cup run."

Fame Game has a stranglehold on Cup favouritism at $3.20 ahead of Trip To Paris at $9 after working home late in the Caulfield Cup to finish sixth.

His effort attracted the attention of stewards who said they expected the horse to be ridden the same way at Flemington.

"He's (Fame Game) had a very easy run. He barely got out until the 200 metres and really you want a run like our bloke," Berry said.

"You want him to have a nice solid run where he's hitting the line, running through the line, pulls up and has a good blow, comes through the run and loses a bit of weight and tightens up for the Melbourne Cup.

"But I'm only young. I haven't ridden in a heap of Melbourne Cups and Fame Game might come out and blow us away, but I think he's way under the odds."

Berry finished fifth on Glencadam Gold in 2012 and 22nd a year later on Tres Blue.

He missed out last year when The Offer didn't make it to the race and then Sea Moon was also scratched, so Tuesday will be his third ride in the race.

"Hopefully it's third time lucky," he said.
