The relentless quest for Melbourne Cup winners continues for high profile owner Lloyd Williams.

Already the winner of the Cup on four occasions - the first in 1981 with Just A Dash, the latest in 2012 with Green Moon - Williams has three runners this year.

He and his son Nick share in the ownership of the Aidan O'Brien-trained Kingfisher and Bondi Beach with Coolmore while Robert Hickmott will saddle up The United States.

Bondi Beach is only a three-year-old in the northern hemisphere and is the least experienced of the 24 runners in Tuesday's race.

Williams concedes that may count against Bondi Beach who will be ridden by Brett Prebble.

But he is confident a northern hemisphere three-year-old will be winning the Melbourne Cup in the not too distant future.

"It's my decision to run this horse in the Melbourne Cup but the inexperience does weigh a lot," Williams said.

"I have a theory that northern hemisphere three-year-olds, since I've watched Mahler run third to Efficient, have a good chance of winning the race.

"They have a terrific advantage, he's got Classic form and he's got much better form than Mahler.

"If we didn't have this horse here he would be staying in Europe and getting ready for the major Group One races at a mile-and-a-half in Europe.

"He's here because I live here."

Kingfisher finished second in the Ascot Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June.

He did not travel to Australia as well as his stablemate but Williams said he had picked up.

"The first week was a bit difficult but in my view he looks as well as anything. In fact I'm amazed at how well he looks," Williams said.

Champion Hong Kong jockey Joao Moreira will partner The United States who made his way into the Melbourne Cup after Williams was forced to pull Amralah out of the race.

Amralah was safely in the field but had to be taken out after treatment 18 days ago had not cleared its system.
