Sell-out Cup crowd expected at Doomben

Monday 2 November 2015, 11:44am

A sell-out crowd of more than 15,000 people is expected to pack Doomben racecourse for Melbourne Cup day.

Brisbane Racing Club chief executive Dave Whimpey said a number of new marquees and packages had been added this year.

"This year is shaping up to be our biggest Melbourne Cup yet, with a 25 per cent lift in hospitality bookings and close to 6000 corporates already booked," Whimpey said.

The track will be staffed by 600 people who will serve 5000 bottles of champagne, 500kg of prawns and over 30,000 canapes.

The Cup day meeting will return to Eagle Farm next year when Queensland's biggest racetrack reopens after a redevelopment.
