An impressive win by Don't Doubt Mamma has given Tony McEvoy a stakes double on Melbourne Cup day.
And the trainer is now keen to look at the Group Two Sandown Guineas for the talented three-year-old filly.
McEvoy had set Don't Doubt Mamma for a fillies' race on Cox Plate day at Moonee Valley but wasn't happy with her condition and scratched her.
"The blood picture just wasn't quite right. And If you don't listen to those signs you're not doing your job," McEvoy said.
"We protected the filly, it gave us time to treat her, and she's bounced back today."
Don't Doubt Mamma, the $6.50 favourite, settled back in the field in Tuesday's Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) before looming up strongly on the outside early in the straight.
She sprinted clear at the 200m under Dwayne Dunn to win by two lengths over Indarra with half a length to Denpurr third.
Don't Doubt Mamma had won impressively at Caulfield two starts ago before a disappointing sixth in the Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m).
After Tuesday's win, McEvoy said he would consider starting the filly in the Sandown Guineas (1600m).
McEvoy had earlier prepared two-year-old filly Concealer to win on debut in the Group Three Emirates Airline Plate (1000m).
Dunn was impressed by Don't Doubt Mamma.
"She was awesome and hopefully they can win the Guineas with her," he said.
