Trainer Mike Moroney is on the board at this year's Melbourne Cup carnival with Rhythm To Spare racing to victory in the same race a stablemate won 12 months ago.
Rhythm To Spare ($9.50), who had 60kg in Saturday's Antler Luggage Handicap (1600m), was taken to the front after looking like he might get posted wide.
He responded to Oliver's riding over the final 250m to win by 1-3/4 lengths from Defiant Angel with Setinum a long head away third.
Moroney won the same benchmark-96 race a year ago with Saint Or Sinner.
Oliver said it wasn't his intention to lead but in the end it proved a winning move.
"I thought King's Dance would lead but when no-one wanted to take it up. This horse hasn't led before but he was in a good rhythm," Oliver said.
"When you're going that slowly, you can run the race on your terms and make it hard to catch you if you can kick. I was on a fit racehorse and he held them all off."
Oliver has three wins from four rides on Rhythm To Spare and Moroney said the Kilmore Cup could be next target for the galloper.
