Glyn Schofield is going hungry for his Epsom Handicap day rides on Stout Hearted and Yosei but says it will be worth it.
Schofield has the ride on Yosei in Saturday's Group One Epsom Handicap at 52.5kg and Stout Hearted at 52kg in the Group One Metropolitan, well below his normal riding weight.
Stewards have given Schofield permission to ride Stout Hearted half a kilogram over at 52.5kg if required, but he will work hard to get to the correct weight.
"I'll just work at it and go light," Schofield said.
"They are both definitely worthwhile getting down to otherwise I wouldn't be doing it. I think they are both live hopes of winning."
Schofield won the Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) on Stout Hearted two starts ago and was given the nod over Nathan Berry to partner the import in the Metropolitan.
Stout Hearted will be at 2400m for the first time in Australia but has raced twice over the distance in England last year.
"He's got to settle to ensure he gets the trip," Schofield said.
"Without doubt here (in Australia) he's been a bit too keen in his races. He did settle when I rode him (in the Kingston Town Stakes) but that was off a really strong tempo.
"I think the key to him is just letting him be where he is happy which is how I rode him at Rosehill.
"The turn of foot he's got is probably better than anything else in the race, and that will carry him a long way."
Schofield picked up the ride on Yosei the night before the George Main Stakes two weeks ago after the mare's regular rider Michelle Payne was injured in a race fall.
Yosei, who finished seventh in the George Main, has won three Group One races and was third to More Joyous and Shoot Out in this year's Doncaster.
"Yosei ran well in the George Main. She got a really slowly run race. It was at weight-for-age and she's now down to 52-1/2 kilos," Schofield said.
"She pops up regularly in these big races. She's got the talent."
