It was a mixture of shock, excitement and nerves for apprentice Lauren Stojakovic when told she had kept the plum ride on Miracles Of Life for her Melbourne debut.
Stojakovic, 29, has been given the opportunity to ride the unbeaten youngster again in Saturday's Blue Diamond Preview for fillies at Caulfield.
The apprentice has been aboard the Daniel Clarken-trained Miracles Of Life, the Blue Diamond favourite, in her two Adelaide starts which netted a 5-1/2 length win on debut and then a nine-length success the next time around.
A number of jockeys put their name forward to ride Miracles Of Life on Saturday.
"I was quietly hoping I was still in the mix of names but I didn't get too excited. I thought they may have opted for someone else," Stojakovic said.
"But they've chosen me which is awesome. I guess it was a mix of shock, excitement and also a little bit of nerves when I got told."
Stojakovic, who has just had her apprenticeship extended, says it's a huge opportunity and is confident she can do the job.
Miracles Of Life pleased in her gallop at Morphettville on Tuesday morning and will head to Melbourne on Thursday night.
The filly isn't among Blue Diamond entries but a late entry fee will be considered, depending on her performance on Saturday.
"I have ridden her in her two starts, in which I didn't have to do too much to help her, but I know her and she knows me and I think that's a big help," the apprentice said.
Stojakovic always wanted to be a jockey.
But she has had to overcome a number of injuries since she started out to remain in her dream job.
She had a broken leg and then had to have surgery on both knees.
The apprentice then broke her pelvis in four places in a trackwork accident which kept her out of the saddle for another 2-1/2 years.
During that time she studied to become a vet nurse and was a part-time steward.
"After about two-and-a-half years they finally said my pelvis felt stable and strong and I could get back into riding," she said.
"That was five years ago."
Clarken said Miracles Of Life was on target for her biggest test yet.
"She had a gallop this morning and pulled up sensational from it," the trainer said.
"There's still a lot of hurdles to get over, she's got to travel still, but in saying that we're going with a genuine chance."
